A patient of this program must be a resident of New York State, have a government-issued ID, and have their medical marijuana card on them at all times, as this is protection against any legal prosecution. In addition, the medical provider that prescribes cannabis treatment is required to explain the potential risks and benefits of marijuana use to the patient or their legal guardian.
