Medical marijuana has been shown to help alleviate pain. While it is not a pain reliever, it works alongside prescription opioids to increase their effectiveness. In fact, a study done at the University of California, San Francisco found that patients showed up to a 95 percent decrease in chronic pain when using marijuana along with prescription opioids. It also showed that lower dosages of the opioids could even be used in some cases.
